हृदयंमदृ कु रणंजीवनंपरि वर्तयर्त ति :

Softening Wounds, Changing Lives

Every year on October 17th, World Trauma Day serves as a poignant commemoration of all the people who have endured physical, mental and psychological trauma. Enactus ARSD, under Project Samvedna, observes the day to promote collaborative efforts and actions to mitigate the far-reaching effects of trauma.

What is TRAUMA?

According to the American Psychological Association, trauma leaves a complex pattern of pains in one's soul. Trauma is more than simply pain; it is a monument to the human spirit's tenacity and ability to recover and rebuild while finding strength in weakness.

What are the CAUSES?

The most frequent causes of trauma worldwide might vary by geography, culture, and socioeconomic variables. Some of the most typical trauma-causing factors worldwide are as follows:

Natural Disasters: Trauma caused by devastating events like earthquakes, floods, and hurricanes.

● Conflict and War: Trauma resulting from armed conflicts, including wars and acts of terrorism.

● Violence: Trauma from personal violence, including domestic abuse and physical assault.

Accidents and Injuries: Trauma stemming from serious accidents such as car crashes and workplace injuries.

● Loss and Bereavement: Emotional trauma due to the loss of loved ones through death or separation.

Childhood Adversity: Trauma resulting from adverse childhood experiences, such as abuse and neglect.

Forced Migration and Refugees: Trauma experienced by displaced individuals fleeing conflict or disasters.

Mental Health Conditions: Trauma associated with living with mental health conditions like depression and PTSD.

● Substance Abuse and Addiction: Trauma caused by the negative consequences of substance abuse on health and life.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE DAY

The significance of World Trauma Day lies in its promotion of sensitive and efficient responses to trauma. The day brings together people, groups, and governments from all over the world to emphasize how trauma affects everyone, promoting empathy and understanding. It promotes trauma-informed techniques in various sectors, highlighting healing processes, resources for survivors, and policy focus on mental health and trauma services. It fosters global research for a compassionate approach to trauma.

WAYS TO OVERCOME TRAUMA

BE PATIENT: Learn to be patient with your feelings and reactions to life's situations. Accepting reality will help you feel better and more relaxed, and things will naturally settle on their own sooner.

SEEK MEDICAL HELP WHEN NEEDED: Consult a psychiatrist to manage tough situations and reach out for support to navigate through the crisis

FOCUS ON SELF CARE: A healthy, balanced diet, adequate deep sleep, regular exercise, socializing with family and friends, and engaging in relaxing hobbies like music, dance, art, and gardening promote positive reinforcement and help in overcoming challenging times.

REGULAR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: The weight of emotional turmoil can have adverse effects on both external and internal organs. Hence, it is crucial to engage in daily exercise, ideally for 30 minutes to an hour, to promote not only physical well-being but also mental wellness.

Let's unite in healing wounds, comforting the broken-hearted, and forging a world where World Trauma Day is not just a day of remembrance, but a day to celebrate resilience and the incredible strength of the human spirit to persevere. Together, we possess the ability to turn adversity into strength, conquer trauma, and shape a brighter and more hopeful future.
